CAFFCI 6th meeting report

China Association of Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetic Industries (CAFFCI) has held its sixth delegation conference in Tianjin,Chinaon the 4th-5th December 2006, and 230 people have attended.  They have summarized the rapid growing of these fields of industrial inChinafor the past four years.

 

Currently, there are more than 3,800 cosmetic companies and 800 flavor, fragrance, and raw material companies inChina(more than 100 companies are invested by foreign companies or foreign joint venture).  According to the statistic,Chinahas produced a total product volume of 233k tons in 2005.  98k tons were raw materials products, which included essential oil, natural isolate, natural identical, and synthetic aroma chemicals.  The remaining 135k tons are compounding products, which included flavor and fragrance.

 

The whole year sale of 2005 inChinareaches 13 billion Renminbi (equivalent to about 1.6 billion US Dollar).  Among these, about 650 million US Dollar are for export, which consists mostly raw material of flavor & fragrance.

 

According to the figures from Chinese Customs publication of ¡°2005 Flavor, Fragrance and Raw Materials Import and Export Details,¡±Chinahas imported 34.6k tons of flavor, fragrance, and raw materials, which is equivalent to about 348 million US Dollar.  In the same year,Chinahas exported about 89.8k tons of flavor, fragrance, and raw materials, which is equivalent to about 710 million US Dollar.  (Data from the Chinese Customs is different from the association statistics because Customs has included some chemical products into their analysis.)

 

The total sales volume of end products, which added flavor and fragrance, are estimated more than 100 trillion Renminbi.

 

The association is responsible to institutionalize the standard for the production permit system for these industries inChina.  They establish the system to apply, to recommend, and to judge famous product¡¯s brand name.  They set up and revise the National Code for Chinese industries, and strengthen the regulations and standardize the product.  This will help to improve the analysis system and quality of the products, and to ensure the safety of these products meet with the international requirement.

 

The association also provides training and development classes for perfumers and flavorists.  To appraise its work, every two years they will also organized academic seminars and conference to enhance the exchange of knowledge and provide discussion forum of the new technologies.  They also have many activities and cooperation with the international associations, such as IFRA, CTFA, Colipa, and meet with professional representatives from the world, such asFrance,Japan,Korea, etc.

 

The new Executive Committee for the next four years was also elected.  Both Mr. Li De Ming from China Tuhsu Flavours & Fragrances Import & Export Corporation and Ms. Winnie Yeung from Kallin International Ltd are elected to be the Vice President.
